Animal Bridge Rehabilitation
Chicago, Illinois

Designed in 1904 to be an integral part of Frederick Law Olmstead’s design for Jackson Park, the water-themed structure required rehabilitation to meet modern necessities. In addition to restoration of the structure, changes included widening of the bridge to improve traffic flow.  In compliance with IHPA requirement for the project, JLA conducted historic research, photographically recorded the structure in large-scale format and created drawings according to guidelines of the Historic American Engineering Record (Level I). Working closely with engineers, JLA then prepared working drawings and specifications for the removal, cleaning, repair, stone carving replication, and reinstallation of original material.
