Great Lakes Building 3 Façade Restoration and Adaptive Reuse
Great Lakes, Illinois

One of several restoration projects in which JLA has been involved at the Naval Station, this project was composed of interior and exterior renovation and restoration of this historic building.  Located within the Great Lakes Naval Station Historic District, the project required strict adherence to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and cunning design solutions to restore historic elements and retrofit with modern mechanical and ADA devices. JLA concentrated on restoration of the roof and installation of historically appropriate blast windows. JLA also served as liaison to the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency (IHPA), guiding the full project scope through the Section 106 process.
