Yerkes Observatory Master Plan

JLA was invited by the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation to explore the preservation of the University of Chicago's Yerkes Observatory. Coordinating with landscape architects, observatory staff, and astronomy departments of several universities, JLA created an historically appropriate master plan for the continued use of this unique property. Extensive research of the original Cobb and Olmstead plans and assessment of current conditions led to several options. All of these designs focused on preservation of existing material and creation of new structures based on historic intent and modern necessities.
