University of Chicago - International House

University of Chicago, International House
Chicago, Illinois

JLA was responsible for designing ADA access improvements and interior renovations for this American Collegiate Gothic building designed by the architecture firm Holabird & Root. The building has a complex program that includes dormitory, office, assembly, food service and theater uses on multiple levels with areas that are not wheelchair accessible. JLA designed ramps & lifts that provided universal access to these areas, which were detailed to be compatible with the original historic conditions. Work also included creation of a new ADA women’s restroom, relocation of reception services and remodeling of the existing administrative area. The overall JLA design created better organized areas with more usable space while providing universal access.
